Dear Patient,
Welcome to the world of braces!! While braces are “stuck” onto your teeth with some adhesive, the fact of the matter is that these appliances must one day be removed. It is for this reason that orthodontists use a weak glue to “cement” the appliances. While the adhesive is strong enough to serve its purpose, these appliances can become “unstuck” if you do not follow the rules.
The golden rule is this:
IF YOU CANNOT SQUASH THE FOOD BETWEEN YOUR FINGERS, YOU MUST CUT THE FOOD UP INTO SMALL PIECES AND USE YOUR BACK TEETH TO CHEW IT.
Examples of things you can eat:
1) Noodles
2) Rice
3) Pasta
4) Chicken
5) Fish
Examples of foods that are too hard and crunchy and require cutting into small pieces:
1) Cucumber
2) Carrots
3) Crusty bread
PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU ABSOLUTELY CANNOT EAT NUTS OF ANY KIND!!
A FRIENDLY REMINDER:
Please brush your teeth just before you see Dr Vaz!
