The first Invisalign consultation

The first Invisalign consultation is always one that is filled with anticipation. In the world of digital dentistry, the clear aligner universe of which Invisalign is part of brings convenience and esthetics to the forefront of the patient experience. In order to make a comprehensive and detailed analysis that will customize your treatment to your needs, x rays (orthopantomagram and lateral cephalogram) and a 3D digital scan of your teeth will be performed.

  • Orthopantomagram

orthopantomagram x-ray

An orthopantomogram, also known as an OPG or panoramic X-ray, is a type of dental X-ray that provides a broad, two-dimensional view of the entire mouth in a single image. It captures the teeth, upper and lower jaws, temporomandibular joints (TMJ), and surrounding structures. Orthopantomograms are used by dentists and orthodontists to diagnose and plan treatments for various dental and orthodontic conditions.

During an orthopantomogram procedure, the patient is positioned in front of the X-ray machine with their chin resting on a support. The X-ray tube rotates around the patient’s head, capturing a continuous image of the entire mouth on a single film or digital sensor. The procedure is quick, non-invasive, and painless.

  • Lateral Cephalogram

lateral cephalogram

A lateral cephalogram, also known as a lateral cephalometric radiograph or simply a cephalometric X-ray, is a type of diagnostic imaging that provides a side-view, two-dimensional image of the skull and facial structures. It is primarily used in orthodontics and dentistry to assess the relationships between the teeth, jaws, and soft tissues, as well as to analyze craniofacial growth and development.

During a lateral cephalogram procedure, the patient is positioned in a standing or seated position with their head stabilized and their teeth in a natural biting position. The X-ray machine is positioned on one side of the patient’s head, while a film or digital sensor is placed on the other side. The X-ray beam passes through the patient’s head, capturing an image of the skull, jaws, teeth, and soft tissues on the film or sensor.

  • 3D Digital Scanner

A 3D digital scanner, also known as an intraoral scanner or dental scanner, is a device used in dentistry and orthodontics to capture highly accurate, three-dimensional digital impressions of a patient’s teeth and surrounding oral structures. This technology replaces the traditional method of taking dental impressions using putty-like materials, providing a more comfortable and efficient experience for patients and dental professionals.

The 3D digital scanner eliminates the need for the old style sticky gooey impression material that was previously used. No more mess and no more gag reflex and feeling like you cannot breathe!

There are several types of 3D digital scanners, but most utilize a small handheld wand connected to a computer or tablet. The wand houses a small camera that captures images or videos of the teeth as it’s moved around the patient’s mouth. The entire scanning process only takes about 3 minutes. The images are then processed by specialized software to create a detailed, 3D digital model of the patient’s teeth and oral tissues.

Once all the records are obtained, we will do a thorough analysis of your clinical condition and formulate a customized treatment plan. When you are satisfied with the plan, you are ready to begin your Invisalign adventure!!!

The ClinCheck visit

What is a ClinCheck?

Using the ClinCheck software, the orthodontist creates a personalized treatment plan for the patient. The software allows the orthodontist to plan the movement of the teeth over time using a series of Invisalign aligners. It provides a visualization of how the teeth will shift during treatment, the number of aligners needed, and the expected treatment duration.

The ClinCheck software generated a giant leap forward in the customisation and visualisation of orthodontic treatment. Not only did patients see their projected end results, they were also able to see how their teeth would move during the entire Invisalign process. Furthermore, with this software, they had full control of their end result, creating a fully customised outcome to suit each individual’s needs.

During ClinCheck visit

This visit is one of the most important visits for the Invisalign patient. It is at this visit that patients will get a first glimpse of what their end result will look like. This is different from the “Invisalign outcome simulator”

A ClinCheck visit is an appointment with your orthodontist or dentist during which they review and discuss your proposed Invisalign treatment plan. Invisalign is a popular orthodontic treatment that uses a series of clear, removable aligners to straighten your teeth. The ClinCheck software is used by your orthodontist to create a customized 3D treatment plan that predicts the movement of your teeth over time.

Here’s what you can expect during a ClinCheck visit:

  •         Treatment plan
Your orthodontist will use the ClinCheck software to create a personalized treatment plan for you, which includes a 3D visualization of your teeth’s projected movement over time. This step might happen during your initial visit or a follow-up appointment.
  •         Review and discussion
Your orthodontist will review the proposed treatment plan with you, discussing the expected treatment duration, number of aligners, and any additional orthodontic appliances that might be needed (e.g., attachments, buttons, or elastics).
  •         Adjustments
If you have any concerns or questions about the treatment plan, this is the time to discuss them with your orthodontist. He can make adjustments to the plan to better suit your needs and preferences.
  •         Approval and ordering
Once you and your orthodontist are satisfied with the treatment plan, it will be submitted to Invisalign, and your custom aligners will be manufactured.

Remember that every patient’s experience may vary slightly based on their specific needs and the orthodontist’s approach. The ClinCheck visit is an essential part of the Invisalign process, as it ensures that you and your orthodontist are on the same page about your treatment goals and expectations.
